Hello People, do you want to find out how I got started with my Instagram adventure? If you had told me a few years ago that I would willingly press the “Go Live” button and talk to my reflection, practically talking to myself, I would have thought you’ve gone nuts. But life is funny sometimes, it likes to push you into these kinds of moments that you never would have planned yourself. For me this was during COVID, when there was nothing to and as a cat owner i technically wasn't allowed out of the house. What does someone do in this situation? There's only so much sourdough I can bake in a day! The obvious decision is to jump head first into social media.

Was I brave? Absolutely.

Was I ready? Ehm, not even the slightest.

It was a lovely sunny day where everything looked picturesque even the slightly overgrown lawn. So after the sourdough jumped out of the oven what do i do with my day? You guessed it! I dragged my thermomix out of the kitchen and into the garden. I took the extension that we usually use for the lawnmower and set up a pop up kitchen in my garden.

The plan was simple, at least I thought. In my head I'm thinking “okay, im on set of Aga’s cooking show i need to look into the camera (or phone) and loudly talk to the microphone (or phone) and hopefully entertain the crowd (you get the idea)”. I brought out everything you need to make lemonade: water, sugar, lemons, my cameraman (or fiance) and my camera equipment (or phone).

So after the set building I quickly ran to a mirror and practiced how to start my

cooking show. After 20 different ways to say hi (even for Polish standards thats crazy), and the sun and cameraman slowly running out of clouds to count. I came down and we pressed "

start". After the first few sentences my body decided this is a life threatening situation, fight or flight. My heart started racing and I was smiling in the same way you do when you realise you might not make it to the toilet.

Even with all of this I kept going. I made the lemonade, I tried to look relaxed and natural whilst fighting every inch of stage fright (even if it was digital). After signing off to the crowd (digitally) I felt all the stress flow off my shoulders. Wow that was crazy it felt like a horse race and I won. At least I thought…

Sometimes in horse racing there's hurdles. So in this analogy me and my horse didn't make it past the first hurdle, and I ran the race after being knocked out in my dreams. After my first ever Instagram live which went perfect. I caught a dagger straight to the heart. “Honey, I think… I might have… I didn’t press the right camera button.” Silence.

This race that I ran perfectly (in my head) wasn’t even on camera. After that moment I didn't feel empowered, like a winner. I felt other things, let's just say enlightened was not one of them.

Now of course I laugh every time I tell this story. To me this is comedy gold! But on that day? Not the slightest bit, not funny, not even a little bit. So what did my stubborn self do, we went again. The second video was still not quite production standard with a host holstering immaculate confidence, flowing majestically gracing all 3 viewers. But technically it was my second time doing this which was a lot more experience than I ever had with anything social media related.

And you know what? It made me feel great.

I couldn't wait to do another one this time better and hopefully I would make the first hurdle this time.

Oh and by the way this is the recipe:

All you need is:

✔ Lemons

✔ Water

✔ Sugar

✔ And maybe… a better camera operator than mine
